Have you ever experienced a day where it seemed like you left everything you needed at home? That's what occurred to us during our T-ball game on Tuesday.
It all began as we were attempting to leave the house. Being the coaches, David and I aim to arrive at the field about 30 minutes early to set up, greet the kids, and we've all experienced that moment when our kids inconveniently announce, “I need to go potty.” I thought it would be easier to feed E a bottle. While I was trying to warm it up, he was screaming his head off! Fortunately, my mother-in-law was there and offered to get B ready, while David was securing the dogs. I was attempting to use my wearable pumps and bottle-feed Emmett simultaneously. Spoiler alert, it didn’t go well. We ended up letting him finish the bottle in the car seat (yes, shame on us).
We finally arrive at the ball fields with about 15 minutes to spare before the game, and we're loading up the wagon. Benjamin says, “I’m thirsty, Mama.” Mama left his water on the counter. Dad offers to get one from the concession stand, but they’re closed! Fortunately, another parent on the team had a water bottle they used to fill their son’s cup, so we could have some. Problem solved. Then, we realize we don’t have our bag with Benjamin’s hat, David’s glove, or the cones for fielding. At this point, I’m thinking, “Whatever, we’ll skip the cones, and B doesn’t really like his hat anyway.” The game is about to start, and guess what happens next?
My mom said, “Hey, I need a diaper. Emmett pooped.” That's right. My child, who RARELY poops, has filled his diaper, and if he moves the wrong way, it could be a blowout. No problem. I’ll just grab a diaper, and Mom is offering to handle the absolute carnage from my child’s diaper. But guess what we forgot in the bag? Diapers and wipes… I was ready to make a cloth diaper out of a blanket and an extra shirt. Thankfully, other moms on the team had wipes and extra diapers that were too big, but we made it work!
I got him changed, handed him back to Lala, and then engaged in a very hectic game where my boy managed to hit the ball without the Tee! Despite the chaos and stress of forgetting many necessary items, Benjamin performed excellently in the game. Having your children in sports can be challenging, but it's important to remember that it's just a kids' ball game. Instead of worrying about every little detail, like cones and hats, sometimes you just have to let go and say “whatever” so you can relax and enjoy watching your kids play a sport they're growing to love, and to ask for help from other parents because we have all been there! Shoutout to my other Dodger mamas! <3
PS. I placed that bag in the car and ensured there are diapers that REMAIN IN THE CAR!
